Piney Hill Artists
The Who, What, and When
The name Piney Hill Artists is derived from the hill where we lived for many years, just outside of Libertytown, MD. That hill has been known as Piney Hill by long-time local residents since at least the 1930s. The hill is now covered largely by oak, maple, beech and hickory hardwood trees. Sadly, only two of the original mature pine trees are still living, and both are on the property that Lu and I previously owned. We moved from there in 2020, and we now live near Taneytown, MD.
Piney Hill Artists is a joint venture between Lu (Lady Lu) and Mike (Sutty) Sutphin. We are what you might call serious 'hobby artists' in that we do not mass produce artwork to sell. For example, Lu loves to design and create handmade jewelry... but each piece is intended to be unique and she rarely makes an exact duplicate. She would much rather interact with her customers to learn what they want in terms of material, color, and purpose of the piece, i.e. necklace, earrings, bracelet, set, etc. Take a look at the LadyLu Jewelry Gallery. If you see something you like and you would like her to create something similar just for you, please use the Contact or Question form on our site to initiate the necessary dialog. You will not be disappointed in the quality and her pricing is very reasonable.
Lu has been drawing and sketching since she was a small child. Her talent is obvious to even a casual viewer. She is a master of color and shading. Whether it is charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, water color, acrylics or a mixture, her work is beautiful. Many of her original drawings and sketches are available for purchase, along with professional prints and blank greeting cards featuring her artwork.
Mike loves to paint with oils. He primarily creates land- and seascapes, but the occasional flower may flow from his brushes. Many of Mike’s original paintings are available for purchase, as are selected professional prints at affordable prices. Blank greeting cards featuring some of his paintings are also available.
Both Lu and Mike accept commissions on a case-by-case basis. If you would like us to create something just for you... a piece of jewelry, a sketch or painting, please visit our Contact page. From there, you can send us an email with a brief description of what you might like us to do for you. If you have a photo you can attach that to the email as well. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about pricing, etc.
